copyright

the author of a book, computer software, or music owns rights to that work.

no person can produce a copy of a written work and sell it without the permission of the author.

authors can sell the copyright to another party, however in general license fees are charged for the right to have a copy of the item, such as in the case of a book purchased from a bookshop

copyright comes into existance as soon as the work it created, it does not need to be registered or approved

A notice is frequently included on written works to indicate the owner of the copyright to it, e.g. (c) Author1 2008 [year the work was written]
